Barack Obama delivers tearful eulogy

Barak Obama on Saturday addressed a full Catholic Mass honoring Beau Biden in Wilmington, Delaware.

Vice-president Joe Biden’s two surviving children – Hunter Biden and Ashley Biden – also spoke to remember their brother, who died of brain cancer last week at the age of 46.

Obama tells family: ‘We are always here for you. 

Obama attended the funeral with his wife, Michelle, their daughters, Malia and Sasha, and his mother-in-law, Mary Robinson. The president said the Biden family “rule” was that, before help was even sought, family members would be there for each other. Addressing Beau’s widow, Hallie, and their young children Natalie and Hunter, he promised that the Obamas would now be there for them.

“Beau’s passing has left a gaping hole in the world,” the president said. “Hallie, I can only imagine the burdens you have been forced to bear. As you were there for him, we will be there for you. We have become part of the Biden clan. We are honorary members now and the Biden family rules apply. We are always here for you – my word as a Biden.”

Obama praised Beau Biden for his service as attorney general of Delaware and as an officer in the national guard and with the US army in Iraq.“We are here to grieve with you but more importantly we are here because we love you,” he told the congregation at the packed Roman Catholic church, St Anthony of Padua, where Biden’s coffin had earlier been carried in draped in the stars and stripes as his family walked slowly behind it.

General Ray Odierno, the former top US commander in Iraq, also spoke.

“I was able to witness first-hand Beau’s character,” Odierno said. “He understood the importance of maintaining trust with his fellow soldiers and with everyone he came into contact with, and he did it just by smiling and listening.“He cared deeply for his fellow human beings and always treated everyone with respect. He had a natural charisma that few people possess. People naturally wanted to follow him and he was selfless to a fault.”

Odierno said Biden would tell him over and over again “I’m just another soldier”, but the general said he thought the brave soldier might one day lead his country.

Political Earthquake

Description

The incompetence of Najib Razak’s office in handling public relations has been clearly shown by his choosing of the worst possible excuse to avoid facing a confident and determined Dr Mahathir Mohamad at the Nothing2 Hide forum. Being persuaded by the police not to attend, in the name of “security concerns”, was the worst thing he could have done.

The primary responsibility of the police is to secure public safety. If the police could not even ensure the safety of the PM, is there anywhere in this country that is safe at all? Second, can the IGP actually persuade the PM not to attend an event? Or is it the weak will and incompetence of our PM?

Najib could have jumped on the chance of facing a natural disaster in Sabah and escape from being publicly  shamed, and perhaps even regain control. The earthquake happened at 7am. The forum was scheduled to be held by 10am. There was an ample three hours to decide that it was necessary to make a personal visit to Sabah, attending to, and taking control of the emergency response.

He would have avoided a direct confrontation with Mahathir, regained popularity and saved his image. But he missed this golden opportunity and decided to escape from reality by visiting Saudi Arabia instead, leaving the chaos behind.

As reported, the earthquake in Sabah was the most serious since 1976 and Ranau, near the epicentre, the worst-affected area. Were the PM to visit Ranau to take control of the emergency response, the same way as China’s president, Wen Jia-Bao commanded the People’s Liberation Army to respond to the Sichuan earthquake, Najib could have saved himself from his own disaster.

Moreover, he had visited Sabah just a month ago to obtain support from “the fixed deposit of Barisan Nasional”. If he were really sincere, he could have enforced his status and image by responding to the earthquake disaster, saving this “fixed deposit” and his own image along with it.

He seems to be totally oblivious. Regardless of how important this official visit to Saudi Arabia, in the perception of the public, his acts only worsen the mess. Last year, just when the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia was facing a terrible flood, Najib was reported to be playing golf with the President of the United States, Barack Obama, in Hawaii. Only when the public actively criticised his actions did Najib return. By then, the damage had been done.

The key to success in a political career is not just image building, but also about handling public relationships. After all, citizens know that real people care about them through action, not words.

If Najib cannot deal with the rumours, criticisms, and questions, his political path will definitely run into a huge earthquake ahead.

Aarthi Agarwal Dies at 31

Actress Aarthi Agarwal, 31, who has acted in 21 Telugu, Tamil and Hindi movies died after suffering a cardiac arrest due to respiratory complications at a hospital in the US on Saturday. Only on Friday, her latest film ‘Ranam 2′ in Telugu was released across theatres in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Telugu Actress Aarthi Agarwal had undergone a liposuction surgery but post-surgery she developed respiratory problems and is said to have suffered a cardiac arrest.

She is one of the few non-Telugu speaking actresses who went on to work with some of the biggest Tollywood stars like K Chiranjeevi, N Balakrishna, A Nagarjuna, D Venkatesh, G Mahesh Babu, Ravi Teja, and NTR Junior.In 2005, Aarthi acted in five movies, including a cameo appearance, which was her career high. After acting in three other movies which did well, Aarthi’s career slumped in 2007 in which she did not get a single offer. Sources in Tollywood said that Aarthi was one of the many young Telugu actresses who are battling depression and obesity after hitting a rough patch in their acting careers. In fact, Aarthi is believed to have tried to commit suicide in March, 2005 at her home in Hyderabad after failing to get new film offers as the four films she acted in that year failed to do well.
